Smart Positioners and IoT Actuators Deployed in North American Water Upgrade Project, Enabling Remote Precision Control

DEKON Technology announced that its DK800 series smart valve positioners have been installed and commissioned at a municipal water treatment plant in Indiana, Midwest United States. The project, led by a local water utility operator, aims to modernize aging effluent valve actuators on filter beds, improving supply stability and reducing operational energy consumption.

The DK800 positioner features an integrated design mounted directly on top of the pneumatic actuator without external tubing. On-site technicians completed auto-calibration using the built-in keypad and display, significantly cutting commissioning time. The positioner collects real‑time data including valve opening, air supply pressure, and stroke deviation, transmitting status information to the central control system via 4‑20 mA loop with HART protocol. Operational data shows that valve response lag has decreased from 1.2 seconds to less than 0.3 seconds, with regulation accuracy of ±0.5%.

“DEKON’s solution was easy to integrate, required no replacement of existing pneumatic lines, and caused virtually no disruption to daily operations,” said the plant’s operations manager. “Energy monitoring shows that after reducing valve modulation frequency, power consumption has notably decreased. We expect annual electricity savings of over $30,000.” Furthermore, the self-diagnostic feature of the positioner allows operators to remotely check valve health from the control room, reducing the need for twice‑weekly on‑site inspections and improving safety.

The water plant is now planning to adopt DEKON’s DK900 explosion‑proof positioners for the next phase of sludge drain valve retrofitting in areas where chemicals are handled. DEKON’s Houston service center provided full technical support and operator training throughout the project, ensuring smooth delivery.
